Save Money on Filing Your Taxes

It’s gray and rainy here today, and I’m working on getting our tax information together, so I wanted to quickly pass along these tax resources to you.

If You File Your Own Taxes

You can complete your federal tax return for free using H&R Block’s online product. State returns are additional.

If You Use an Accountant or Tax Preparation Service

This is our situation, but just because you’re paying for tax preparation, doesn’t mean you can’t take steps to save money. I wrote about that in this post:

If you’re starting to think about taxes, here are some other posts that may be of interest to you.

Do you do your own taxes or hire help?

I like to do my own taxes, but I also used a service called Best of Both from H&R Block last year. I pay a little more than if I do it myself. Basically, HR Block gives me a second look at the return. The way I rationalize it is that I don’t need to pay them for data entry, I should be paying for proper advice and opinion.
