I’m in Love With…Pinterest

Heart from a craft store, hung in a frame with the glass removed. Idea courtesy of Pinterest, of course.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I thought this was the appropriate day to blog about a place that I’ve grown to love: Pinterest.

Have you heard of Pinterest? It’s an online pinboard where you can keep track of the nifty things you find online and organize them into boards. (I’m pretty sure I love the organizing part as much as I love the pinning part.)

Because Pinterest is visual, it’s a great place to keep track of recipes, decorating, and style ideas that you want to try. But there are other uses too. I have boards for books, movies, and even quotes that I love. And I recently started a family finance board as well.

If you’re on Pinterest and want to connect, you can find me here. If you’re not yet part of Pinterest and want to try it, you can request an invite at Pinterest.com, or email me at thefamceo [at] yahoo [dot] net and I’ll send you one.

And you may have noticed that I’ve started including little, red Pin it buttons in some of my posts, like this one. If you’re a Pinterest user you can use those buttons to pin that post on one of your boards.

Some readers have already pinned Family CEO posts. Thank you so much!

So how about you? Have you discovered the phenomenon that is Pinterest? Have you used any ideas you’ve found there in your real, offline life? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

My girlfriends all love Pinterest, but I haven’t fallen down the rabbit hole yet. I’m simply afraid I’ll never get out! I might get into it eventually and limit my time on it :-)

Christa, a rabbit hole is a great way to describe it! It is incredibly addicting. I will say this, though, I’ve reduced my time in other areas, like Facebook, to make up for it.

Ooh, me too! I love Pinterest. It’s weird, because I could easily look up the how-to’s to all the amazing finds I’ve “pinned,” but it definitely helps to have an adorable board to chart my progress on my nerdy crafts and household DIY projects! Here’s a project I recently finished (before I went on a maje budget overhaul!): http://seedebtrun.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/IMG_0365.jpg
I’ve never posted a pic here before, so hopefully this works. Now, if only Pinterest-browsing paid for Pinterest projects…sigh

I love Pinterest! I have been on for about two months! Some people are afraid of copyright laws, but I don’t care–it is a wonderful way to connect with people!

It certainly is, Gayle!

I just got started. I’m still trying to learn the ins and outs of it. I’ll have to learn how to add the red pin to my blog – that is a good idea. It seems there is pinterest fever going around.

Teresa, are you on Wordpress? The plugin I used is called “Pin It on Pinterest.” I’m sure there are others. You’re right, it does take a little while to get the hang of Pinterest. But once you do…

Awesome! Yes, my blog is Wordpress. I’m going there now to find the plugin so I can put a pin on my next post. Thank you so much!

Hi Julie,

I’m in love with it too! It is just the best place to keep all those “clippings” that might otherwise clutter up draw, counters, and closets! :-) It’s sort of like online scrap booking/journaling. Lots of fun.

Have a great day!

Love,
Mary

You’re so right, Mary. Just today I was about to clip a recipe from a magazine and thought I would go to the mag’s site to see if I could pin it from there instead. Great minds! :)

My wife tells me that I need to start including pictures in my posts so that they can be pinned.

Your wife is absolutely right, MB. Pinterest has become a huge source of traffic for blogs.

Pinterest has probably surpassed Flickr for practicality and social sharing. My personal account is not very active, however we added a Pinterest account to our bike blog and it looks fantastic.

I need to get a pin it button on my site! Thanks for the tip.
