NYC Trip Report: The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

Day Four

I have to fess up here: I let my husband take the kids on this outing while I stayed behind for a much-needed nap. I can tell you that before we left I bought timed passes for the ferry and a visit to Liberty Island through Cirle C’s statue reservations. The ferry also takes you to Ellis Island. The total cost for four was $46.

The ticket confirmation told us to be at the ferry landing 2 hours before our reservation time due to the huge crowds and heavy security. Once we were in NY we were advised by several tour guides that unless we were intent on actually visiting Liberty and Ellis Islands, we were better off taking the Staten Island Ferry, which gives you an upclose look at both and is free.

Because we already had the other tickets in hand and the kids wanted to see the statue upclose (you can no longer go up in her torch) and visit Ellis Island, they opted to go the first route. They reported that the lines were long but it wasn’t too bad and they were glad they did it.
